A quick guide to what makes me tick, what I thrive on, and what I care about most as a Product Leader.
I make time for people. I think team cohesion matters even when we don't work directly together day-to-day, and I invest in relationships across teams, not just my closest collaborators.
I do my best thinking in 1:1s and smaller settings. I'm comfortable with presentations and large groups, but I'd rather have a real conversation in smaller groups to reach consensus.
I assume good intent. I trust that people are doing their best with the information they have, and that most friction comes down to communication gaps, not bad faith.
I value information shared proactively. Finding things out by accident is one of my biggest frustrations — open, "no surprises" communication matters a lot to me.
I think best with a little time to process. I don't always have the sharpest answer in the moment — I do my best work when I can sit with something and respond thoughtfully rather than instantly.
Getting to know people as people, not just colleagues
Being someone people trust with problems and honest feedback
Openness over politics
Continuous learning
A safe environment to learn on the job, including from mistakes
Decisions dragging on longer than the evidence warrants — I lean toward action
Decisions being made by committee, outside the remit of the people who should own them — I think product teams do their best work when given genuine space and authority to decide within their own domain
Directness — clear asks, with a sense of what's needed and by when
A preference for over-communicating rather than under-communicating
Flexibility on channel — Slack, email, and async docs all work equally well
A preference for agendas or talking points ahead of meetings, to prepare and show up useful
